Native Youth Olympics Club Session 2

Learn all about traditional Alaska Native sports and games in our Native Youth Olympics Club. Native Youth Olympics is a statewide program open to youth of all backgrounds; our exploratory club will introduce youth to the events and encourage friendly in-house competition and cooperation, but we will not travel for the formal competition in Anchorage.

We will learn games including Alaskan high kick, wrist carry, scissor broad jump, seal hop, stick pull, and many more, as well as the traditional skills and practices the relate to. We will also learn about the special sportsmanship practices that are a feature of Native games including how opposing teams work together and encourage each other!

No experience required other than a willingness to try new things. Everyone can excel in NYO. We will show off our new skills at 4:30pm on May 9.

The session meets April 4, 11, 18, and 25 and May 2 and 9.

Current immunizations required. Participants should bring a water bottle. Participants will be expected to follow all gym safety rules and refrain from using personal electronic devices for non-club-related purposes. Participation in prior session welcome but not required. Register on CYPBMS. Contact the Youth Center to set up an account. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
